Root (Raiz) is a self-portrait stitched to a portrait of my mother. Starting from an idea of connection, the work contains the piece of umbilical cord that came off of me and that had been kept for 22 years, the thread that physically connected two lives, which carried to my body what was necessary to keep me alive, similar to the roots of a plant. The hair appears as a point of contact between the figures, based on the belief that it is a place for the accumulation of things and feelings, and that it is also always connected to its roots.
